Garden Entry

First established in the late 17th century, the gardens to the south of Chevening House have developed over three centuries.  They consist chiefly of pleasure grounds round an artificial lake, with shaded walks, wildflower meadows, and views of the surrounding countryside.

The gardens are open to the public in limited numbers on Tuesdays and Fridays from late spring until early autumn, when not required for other purposes.  Tickets must be purchased online in advance.  They are also open for charity on one Sunday in June in aid of the National Garden Scheme. Guided tours by a gardens expert can sometimes be arranged for groups of up to 25.

Terms and Conditions (summary):

  • Admission is by prebooked ticket only, it's therefore essential to book your tickets online.  Upon selection of your chosen date you will also be asked to choose an arrival time.  Access to the Gardens will not be permitted before the arrival time on your ticket.
  • All Adult visitors must bring two forms of ID, at least one of which must show their photograph and home address.  These must be produced on request and failure to comply may result in refusal of admission.
  • Tickets give access only to the Gardens, via the front gate in Chevening Village. They do not give access to Chevening House, the surrounding parkland and wider Chevening Estate.  It will occasionally be necessary to close the Gardens, in which case anyone holding a ticket for that day will be notified by email of its cancellation and the ticket price will be refunded.
  • The Gardens and grounds are covered by CCTV and it is an absolute condition of entry that all visitors accept that they will be filmed and the images stored for security purposes.  The full Privacy Policy is here
  • To preserve the wildflower meadows, visitors must remain at all times on the gravel paths and areas of mown grass (paths and lawns).
  • Dogs on leads are welcome if well-socialised.  Owners must bring their own bags to clear up after their pets, but a bin is provided to dispose of waste. Animals must not be left shut in parked cars.
  • Bicycles and other cycles, scooters or wheeled conveyances of any description are not permitted, with the exception of wheelchairs, children’s pushchairs and infants’ prams.
  • Drones and camera tripods are not permitted.
